Summer School Plant Genomics and Bioinformatics:
Special Focus: Application of Omics and Bioinformatics in Plant Breeding

The fundamental idea of ETNA is to build a network on plant genome research and bioinformatics in Europe. ETNA organises a yearly summer school course pursuing the training aspect, the exchange of ideas and the creation of an active and living network between European scientists, research organisations and research programs. The planned ETNA courses will combine the latest theoretical knowledge with practical lessons.

The target group for the courses is PhD students and Postdocs with a maximum of six years work experience. During the courses 16 young researchers will be given the chance to work together with experts on the chosen focus. The ETNA Summer School is able to offer the accepted applicants financial support for travel and hotel costs (details see Info). Interested persons can apply online until August 2nd, 2010.

The special focus of the 2010 Summer School is the application of Omics techniques and Bioinformatics in plant breeding. The first day of the Summer School is dedicated to lectures from high profile speakers. The Summer School students will not only have the opportunity to listen to leading experts in the field but will also be able to network with them.

Confirmed speakers are: Lothar Willmitzer, Ricardo Velasco, Serge Delrot, Robert Hall, Eva Zyprian, Jack Leunissen, Etti Or, and Atanasios Tsaftaris.

During the following six days the Summer School offers a mix of seminars and practicals involving Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics and Bioinformatics (for details see Program). Part of every Summer School is a social program with the opportunity to network amongst students. One highlight of the social program will be sightseeing in the beautiful city os Sofia.
